Longtime steam locomotive historian Lloyd E. Stagner details the final years of steam power on the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad from 1950-1957. In a year-by-year accounting, Stagner tells where and when Milwaukee Road steam power was used during this era, and which engines saw service last. Also explained is how the Milwaukee carried out its dieselization program and operated its unique electric locomotives on its western lines during this time period.
