From 1883 until the present time (1984), the Missabe Road and its predecessor companies, the Duluth and Iron Range and the Duluth Missabe & Northern, owned and operated 352 steam locomotives and 136 diesel units.
During the past century this motive power fleet has moved a mountain of irn ore.
This book was compiled to fill the need for a detailed look at the locomotives of the Missabe.
The writer's first book, The Missabe Road, was a company history. Reviewed in Railroad History (R&LHS) #129.
